Where do you go to school?

I’m in the fourth grade at Audubon Elementary in Merritt Island.

What are your favorite subjects?

My favorite time of day is P.E. (gym class) and recess, but I like Math and Science class also.

How long have you been skating and surfing and how did you get started?

I first started surfing when I turned four and started skating a few months later. I always loved the water since I was a baby and would beg to go into the pool even late at night in the middle of winter. While my Dad played beach volleyball at the Cocoa Beach Pier, I used to wander down to the water’s edge and watch the surfers until he caught up with me. I got a soft-top surfboard for my fourth birthday but I quickly outgrew that after two months and than my dad bought me my first surfboard from Sean Volland.

Where do you like to skate?

My favorite place to skate is Cocoa Beach Skatepark, but I sometimes skate at The Park in Melbourne and Paradise Skatepark.

Where is your favorite place to surf?

My favorite place to surf in Florida is New Smyrna Inlet and Paradise Beach, but outside of Florida I like Gas Chambers in Hawaii, Salt Creek and Trestles in California, and in Puerto Rico I also really like a place called Secret Spot.

At the last CB Boardrider Club meeting/surf session I saw you talking to Kelly Slater in the water. What’d you guys talk about?

When I saw him out in the water I actually thought he was one of his brothers, Sean or Skippy, but when he called me “grom,” I knew it was Kelly. (Sean and Skippy always call me Noah.) He asked me about my black eye I got from playing football at recess and we also talked about girls and things. (Just kidding about the girls.)

I can’t believe you had a session with the champ. Did you spray him?

I can’t believe I got to surf with the champ either. That was so awesome! Kelly was very nice. (Laughs) No I didn’t spray him, but I did throw a nice spray in front of him on one ride and he said, “Nice right, grom.”

That’s cool! I remember at the NKF Skate Jam you had a smoke bomb attached to your board. What was that about?

My dad found a bag of leftover fireworks in the laundry room and there were some pull-string smoke bombs in there. I thought it would be funny to tape one on the bottom of my skateboard and skate around the Cocoa Beach Skatepark. I tried it a few times and than at the 1st Annual Surf/Skate Surf and Turf contest I taped a smoke bomb under my board so the judges wouldn’t see me fall. It worked very well, I think they missed all of my falls. My dad has since bought a new box of pull-string smoke bombs, enough for the next ten Surf/Skate contests, so watch out.

What are some of your favorite things to do when you’re not surfing or skating?

When I’m not surfing or skating I do a little bit of everything, depending on the time of year. I like wakeboarding, snowboarding, paintball, wrestling, playing “Call of Duty Black Ops,” playing airsoft behind my house with my friends, doing Iron Kids Triathalons… I train in Jiu-Jitsu at the Brazilian Top Team in Melbourne and won several grappling tournament titles in my division and have traveled as far as Paris to compete in the N.A.G.A. European Grappling Championship. I placed 2nd in the IKF World Classic Championship of Kickboxing with surfer Dave “Little Giant” DiQullo as my cornerman and trained under Trey and surfer James Hoog at the Cocoa Beach Fight Club. I also just finished up the football season with the Merritt Island Mustangs coached by surfer Mike Landress.

Wow. Do you ever find time to eat? Where’s your favorite place to eat after a session?

My favorite food after a skate or surf session would be chicken burritos from Taco City or an oven-roasted chicken sub with extra mustard, pickles, and black olives along with some cherry tomatoes while watching cartoons in the back of my dad’s Honda Element. I started liking Taco City chicken burritos after eating them during lunch at the Cocoa Beach Skatepark summer camp.

If you could go on a surf trip anywhere in the world, where would you go and who would you take?

I’d take a 747 to Hawaii with 524 of my closest friends and my dog, Guinness, and hit the North Shore. (If we take out first class, we can fit a few more people reading this article on also — as long as I have a window seat!)

Any final thoughts, words, or shoutouts?

I would like to thank everyone in the local surf and skate community who has been so nice to me. There are too many to list, but John Holeman, Todd Holland’s School of Surf and the Board Rider’s Club, Mike Rogers and Grind for Life, Stu Sharpe, Bruce Regan, the Salicks and the NKF, Shoretip, Brian And NexGen Surf, Michelle and Camp Ohana, the Bakers, Loren’s Barber Shop in Cape Canaveral, King Nugget, Lani, Skip, and the Christian Surfers, all my sponsors listed above, my surf and skate buddies, and some “grom” called Scooter Newell. Go hard and have fun in whatever you do!
